About
Following a successful family law pupillage under the supervision of Lucy Sowden, Shabab became a tenant at Parklane Plowden in September 2020. Shabab has a wide-ranging practice which envelops public and private family law as well as financial remedies, and she accepts instructions in these areas. Shabab regularly represents various clients, including Local Authorities, parents, children (via their Children’s Guardian), grandparents, and clients through the Official Solicitor.
Shabab frequently provides webinars and training for professionals. Notably, she has provided training on: dealing with managing direct contact in private law proceedings, parental alienation and transfer of residence, ABE interviews in public law proceedings, dealing with allegations of domestic abuse within fact-finding hearings and achieving best practices in child protection work.
Shabab has particular experience of dealing with public law cases involving substantial non-accidental injuries to children, and private law cases with vulnerable clients involving allegations of parental alienation and domestic abuse. Shabab has a calm and approachable demeanour, which is especially helpful when representing lay clients. Shabab has been commended for remaining measured and practical in lengthy, complex and emotionally fraught cases.
Prior to starting her career as a barrister, Shabab obtained an undergraduate degree from the University of Salford and a master’s degree in Public International Law from the University of Manchester. Following receipt of the Lord Denning Scholarship from the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, Shabab completed the BPTC. During this time, she was volunteering at the Legal Advice Clinic and teaching English as a private tutor.
Shabab regularly assists with mentoring schemes, and diversity speaking events aimed at helping aspiring legal professionals, as well as undertaking pro-bono work.
