James is instructed by both Claimants and Defendants/Respondents and is prepared to act on a CFA basis where appropriate.
James’ paperwork practice includes drafting pleadings and writing advices on law, procedure, and tactics. As an advocate James has appeared in the County Court, Employment Tribunal, and High Court.
James prides himself on conducting a thorough analysis of all the issues in every case, and providing a professional but approachable service to all his clients.
Before coming to the Bar, James graduated from LSE with a first-class degree in law. He also worked as a research assistant at the Law Commission. This has given James additional insight and technical skills which he applies in his day to day practice.

Examples of his recent instructions include:
- A cyclist knocked off a bike with a claim for provisional damages for epilepsy;
- A pedestrian injured in an RTA with a risk of growth plate arrest;
- Advising on liability for an RTA for an infant approval with liability not admitted;
- An employee injured by a cable drum;
- An employee injured moving furniture;
- A teacher attacked by a pupil;
- Appearing in various Fast Track RTA and EL cases, including where FD alleged and pursued at trial.
He also regularly deals with various civil applications, including disclosure, strike out, summary judgment and track allocation.
James is frequently instructed in cases involving fundamental dishonesty, for both Claimants and Defendants, and can offer a robust view, where necessary, on the merits of case. He has a detailed knowledge of s57, CPR r44.16, and the relevant case law, and is able to provide sound commercial advice on strategy, risks, and costs.
James has a growing clinical negligence practice. His recent work includes advising on the delayed diagnosis of cancer, as well as appearing in the High Court.
He also completed paperwork in various clinical negligence matters whilst in pupillage under the supervision of Gareth Price, including
- Surrogacy claims following XX v Whittington;
- Delayed diagnosis of cancer;
- Failure to obtain consent;
- Obstetrics.
James regularly advises and acts in ET proceedings. He has a thorough knowledge of the ERA and Equality Act. Examples of his recent / current instructions include:
- 2 day unfair dismissal hearing;
- 3 day unfair dismissal;
- 6 day unfair dismissal and disability discrimination;
- Judicial mediation in advance of 10 day final hearing (settled at mediation).
