Richard Copnall secures a conclusion of “unlawful killing” in the inquest of Ryan Vincent

Following a week-long inquest; Richard Copnall has secured a conclusion of “unlawful killing” for the family of Ryan Vincent. The coroner reached his conclusion on the basis of both “unlawful act” and “gross negligence” manslaughter.

Ryan and his family were guests at Haven’s Primrose Valley caravan park. The coroner found that a security guard effected an unlawful arrest, in which he pinned Ryan face down to the floor, for 16 minutes, despite Ryan’s repeated pleas that he could not breathe. Ryan suffered positional asphyxia, causing extensive brain damage and leading to his death. The family had waited nearly 7 years for this conclusion and now intend to invite the CPS to review its decision not to prosecute.
